The Santa Barbara Breakers continued their winning ways with a 82-77 victory over the Brazilian Universities Club Team. The Brazilian squad, comprising of 4 National starters on their Olympic team, took a first quarter lead of 17-15. The Breakers were slow in countering the 2-3 defensive zone that was thrown up against them. In the second quarter, the Breakers defense led to many fast break points resulting in a 20-11 advantage and a halftime lead of 35-28. In the second half, the Breakers traded baskets with their opponents yet always found a defensive answer to prevail with the 5 point win. Leading the way for the Breakers was Ivan Harris, 6’9 forward from Ohio State and recent Cleveland Cavaliers training camp candidate, with 16 points (3-6 three’s), followed by Bryce McKenzie’s 15 and Perrin Johnson’s (Rick Pitino and Louisville Univ) 14. The Breakers were 24-33 at the free throw line and held a 52-45 rebounding advantage for the 40 minute game. The win keeps the Breakers undefeated at 3-0.
