League Staff Writter – 10/21/2009
The Santa Barbara Breakers greatest opponent or challenge may have turned out to be the travel arrangements bestowed upon them on Sunday, September 27, 2009. After enduring a 1 hour bus trip to the Airport; 4 hour plane trip to Ghanghou, followed by a 4 1/2 bus trip to Schwansei, the Breakers unleashed a fastbreak attack on the Brazil Universites Club for a 88-63 whipping, just 1 1/2 hours after arriving at their hotel. Achieving his best performance of the tour, Perrin Johnson of Pomona, CA (Louisville) scored 21 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and flushed 4 of 5 trifecta’s for the Breakers. Chipping in with double figure scoring was Chris Keller with 12, Leonard Mosley’s 11 and Terrance Thomas’s 10. Jeremy Vague led in rebounds with 8 and Mosley dished out 6 assists for the game. The Breakers actually trailed 21-18 after one period struggling to score against a 2-3 zone defense. In the second quarter, Johnson, Keller and Tim Taylor assaulted the zone defense with 3 point shots but more importantly, the Breakers rebounded defensively, beat their opponents down the floor and tallied easy baskets off the break. The Breakers had one of their better nights at the free throw line hitting 21-27 to Brazil’s 17-19. The Breakers de-fense held Brazil to 33% from the field and was dominate on the boards at 49-33. The final game is set for tomorrow night, once again, against Brazil Universite Club.
